WILBERT Cranes on BASF deconstruction site
Deconstruction of chemical company BASFs „Friedrich-Engelhorn high rise building” in Ludwigshafen (GER) under participation of WILBERT
tower cranes
To be able to do the deconstruction of the high rise building, a WT 200 e.tronic with 110 m height under hook was erected initially. The crane is connected to the building at the beginning of the works and during the deconstruction it will be climbed down to a height of only 79 m, whereat the climbing process has to take place during the running works.
A further special challenge of this jobsite is the very limited space available. The solution was using a cross frame element with an assembly and supporting surface of 10 × 10 m. The height of the tower could be reached by using the flexible WILBERT tower system with its variable tower elements. The capacity of the WT 200 e.tronic is 8 t maximum load and 5.6 t at 40 m radius (jobsite configuration).
By the help of a skid loader, the upper inward looking floors had been pulled down; the tower crane carried the scree material (maximum approx. 150 t per day) downwards for truck removal.
Not before the demolition of the former foyer the jobsite provided space for a second tower crane. A further WT 200 e.tronic has been assembled on a cross frame element and a freestanding height under hook of 94 m – this freestanding height could also
only be realized by using the WILBERT tower system. During the deconstruction works this height under hook will be reduced to 79 m respectively 54 m in the last step.
The concept of the deconstruction of the entire building, which should be finished at the end of 2014, was developed together with company AWR Abbruch GmbH in the German city of Weißenthurm.
